Our Grants & Scholarships

At the Key Biscayne Community Foundation, we strive to create real and lasting impact within the local and greater communities through our grantmaking. KBCF is dedicated to making and facilitating change in Miami-Dade County, elsewhere in the United States and around the world.

All Key Biscayne Community Foundation grants and scholarships are available for review below and are listed in alphabetical order.

EILEEN MCCAUGHAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The family and friends of Eileen McCaughan established the scholarship to honor the life of an outstanding teenager who was tragically killed by a drunk driver at just 15 years old. Eileen was a Key Biscayne teenager who excelled in school and in sports. Scholarships are awarded to students who are academically talented but financially needy and wish to pursue higher education.

EMERGENCY HARDSHIP GRANT

The Key Biscayne Community Foundation provides assistance to Miami-Dade County residents, referred by a Key Biscayne resident or employee, who can show financial difficulty which is unexpected and beyond their control. Please be prepared to clearly describe your financial need and the special circumstances which created the financial difficulty, as well as any additional comments that might increase our understanding.

LIBERTY CITY SCHOLARSHIP MADE POSSIBLE BY JOCELYN WATKINS

This scholarship was started to allow academically talented, but financially needy students a chance at pursuing education at a private high school or secondary school or college. This scholarship is open to all eligible students in the neighborhood of Liberty City wanting to attend Miami-Dade College for undergraduate studies.

KBCF DISCRETIONARY GRANT

The Key Biscayne Community Foundation discretionary grant supports programs and organizations that raise the quality of life and serve members of the local, greater, and global community; designs special initiatives that respond to local, greater, and global community-specific issues; encourages cooperation and collaboration among groups within the local, greater, and global community; and assists donors in achieving their charitable goals to benefit the local , greater, and global community.

KEY BISCAYNE WOMEN’S GIVING CIRCLE GRANT

The Key Biscayne Women’s Giving Circle is devoted to growing philanthropy among women, with the aim of identifying and financially supporting programs for women and/or children in need throughout Miami-Dade County. The Key Biscayne Women’s Giving Circle is a fiscal sponsorship fund operating under the Key Biscayne Community Foundation’s 501(c)(3) charitable umbrella.

RON ERBEL SCHOLARSHIP FOR FIREFIGHTERS

The Ron Erbel Scholarship for Firefighters is in memory of long-time Key Biscayne Firefighter and beloved resident Ron Erbel. Ron spent 17 days volunteering in the ruins of the September 11th aftermath. As a result of his service at the site, Ron contracted terminal cancer, leading to his untimely passing.

SCHOOL CHOICE SCHOLARSHIP

The scholarship was started in 2020 by the Key Biscayne Community Foundation. Scholarships are awarded to students who are academically talented but financially needy and wish to pursue education at a public or private high school, college, or university.

SAMUEL M. & MARGARET V. EASTON EDUCATION FUND SCHOLARSHIP

Samuel and Margaret Easton were married in 1934 for 65 years before Samuel passed away in 1999. They raised their eight children in Upper St. Claire, Pennsylvania, a township 10 miles southwest of Pittsburgh. This education fund is dedicated to their descendants or graduates of South Hills Catholic Academy, who reside in the township of Upper St. Claire, Pennsylvania.

VICTORIA LONDON SCHOLARSHIP

Victoria London passed away in 2014 after a courageous battle with ALS. Victoria received her Master’s in Engineering and Business Administration at Columbia University and was the first woman ever admitted to Columbia’s Chemical Engineering Society, Phi Lambda Epsilon. In 1974, Victoria moved to Key Biscayne and became part of the community. It is through her passion and generosity that future generations will pursue degrees and their own passions and, in doing so honor the incredible legacy of Victoria London.

THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE PUBLIC SAFETY SCHOLARSHIP TO PROMOTE EDUCATION, WELLNESS, AND TECHNOLOGY

The Village of Key Biscayne Public Safety Scholarship to Promote Education, Wellness, and Technology offers three separate scholarship awards: Educational Scholarship Award; Health and Wellness Scholarship Award; and Technology Scholarship Award.
