In Memory of
Douglas Wakefield Biggers

Douglas Wakefield Biggers died peacefully at his Key Biscayne home on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. Doug was born in 1945 to Winnie and Howard Biggers. The family moved to Key Biscayne in 1952 as the Key was just starting to grow. Doug loved to tell stories about growing up on the Key.

The consummate “Key Rat”, Doug loved boating, photography, diving, treasure hunting and discovering and exploring old wrecks. After a career as a Coral Gables Firefighter, Doug went on to invent and patent an integrated hurricane window protection system shortly after Hurricane Andrew. Doug is survived by his wife Christine who inspired his love of travel. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews around the country.

A celebration of Doug’s life will be held Saturday, August 31st at 5pm at the Key Biscayne Community Church followed by a reception at the Key Biscayne Beach Club.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Key Biscayne Community Foundation in remembrance of Doug.
