Gather your local “pod” and join the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center for a sensational outdoor experience! Explore KB is offering small group expeditions at Bill Baggs Cape Florida Park!

The island’s beautiful state park provides an amazing outdoor classroom setting to learn about what’s in your own backyard!

Discover KB’s Natural Habitats

Join us for a fascinating exploration of Cape Florida’s nature trails to discover secrets of the mangroves, coastal strand, or shoreline. Explore Cape Florida by foot with our naturalists and find yourself amazed by just what it takes to thrive and survive in this beautiful unspoiled environment. From the plants which were used for medicinal purposes by native peoples to the stingrays, manatees, and ospreys that calls this environment home, this is an educational and entertaining walk for everyone. You will also learn why conservation of this delicate area is important.

Below you can find a list of available time slots for Explore Key Biscayne. Programs last roughly 1.5 hours. Don’t forget comfortable closed toe shoes and your camera!

Please remember to bring:

  • Liability release forms
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Mask
  • Closed toe shoes that may get wet

Explore Key Biscayne

Explore Key Biscayne is brought to you by the Key Biscayne Community Foundation and the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center. Explore KB is providing outdoor field adventures for local area groups. Scheduled expeditions can be tailored for a variety of groups; local K-12 student pods, home school pods, local area businesses, active senior pods, family pods, friend pods, athletic team pods, and more!

Participating in these immersive experiences in nature, participants will increase their awareness and understanding of South Florida’s natural resources and their desire to protect these resources.  Their interaction with the natural environment leads to changes in behavior and a greater feeling of connection to the community around them.

Our Goals

  • Engage local community groups in hands-on exploration of the natural environment.
  • Complement online school programs with hands-on outdoor activities.
  • Bring awareness to marine debris and related environmental issues.
  • Foster a shared appreciation within the community for our precious natural resources
  • Provide a safe and educational experience for all participants.
  • Provide a structured and age appropriate engagement.

How It Works

  • Schedule a date and time for your expedition.
  • Biscayne Nature Center will contact your leader to confirm the field expedition.
  • Each field expedition will be age and audience appropriate.
  • All field expeditions will be on Key Biscayne.
  • Biscayne Nature Center will provide all equipment for expeditions.
